KIWI IN A KAFFIYEH OR TUI IN A TALLIS? EXPLORING NEW ZEALAND'S POSITION IN THE ARAB-ISRAELI CONFLICT
In this session Ann sheds light on New Zealand and the Arab-Israeli conflict, including New Zealand’s sponsorship of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 (which said that Israel’s settlements in Palestine territory violate international law and undermine a 2-state solution in the Arab-Israeli conflict). Ann uses insights from the past to understand the present and look to the future. Find out how the ‘Palestine question’ has played out in New Zealand politics since the 1930s and see how New Zealand’s past position on Palestine/Israel and Jewish refugees and Holocaust survivors has impacted on today's situation.

Ann Beaglehole

Ann is an historian and a writer. She was born in Hungary and came to New Zealand in 1957 after the Hungarian revolution. She is the daughter of Holocaust survivors.
